Janice Urnstein Weissman – (b. 1944) American, earned her MFA from the University of Cincinnati after receiving her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. Her career has spanned over 40 years, and she has not only exhibited throughout North American and Europe but has taught at both college and high school levels. Her fascination with intricate designs and patterns has allowed her to explore various subjects, such as Japanese kimonos and more recently the tattoo sub-culture. Since 1996, she has dedicated her craft to the exploration and understanding of these "living canvases." Considering herself a re-teller of stories, she creates complex and meticulous compositions, whereby documenting the stories the models are sharing with their bodies. Her paintings are found in prestigious collections, such as the Arnot Art Museum, the Blanton Museum of Art and the St. Louis University Museum of Art.
