Sun Jiapei – (b. 1958) Chinese, received his degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His classical training is steeped in the Six Canons of Chinese painting, while much of his inspiration comes from Western masters as diverse as Rembrandt and Wyeth. He immigrated to Japan in the early 1990's, then spent several years living and painting in Europe. His work, like his artistic and educational influences, can be divided in two parts; East and West. The canal cities of China and Europe are the central theme of Sun Jiapei's work. There is a universal tranquility and harmony in his paintings, which capture the nuances in the air, water, sky, foliage and architecture of these disparate locales.
